Weekly Technetic #7: The Seventh Key
You are a self and a soul searching for truth.
Last of the tenets of technetism is the Seventh Key. The others have shown you what a technetic should be. This, however, tells us who we are. Everyone, whether you ascribe to the technetic ideal or choose some other path, can be described in the ten simple words of this statement.
All religion is about seeking the true nature of things. All science looks to find the same. They use different methods---individual enlightenment versus materialistic logic---but they share the same goal. So too does nearly every human endeavor.
We want to find truth. But there are many kinds of truth out there, and not all of them can be found by the same means. The scientific method is perfect for understanding the nature of the physical world, as has been proven time and time again. On the other hand, spiritual mysteries are completely opaque to that same method. Conversely, reflection and prayer are in no way a substitute for experimentation when it comes to science, but they are very valid activities when the object is personal revelation.
Remember also that you are a self, an individual. You are not merely a cog in the machine of humanity, but an active participant with your own thoughts, feelings, and opinions. Your path in life is yours alone to walk. You may seek guidance, yes, and the aid of friends and family, but you must take the steps yourself. No one can take them for you.
You are unique in two different ways, both of which combine to make you who you are, and this is the lesson of the Seventh Key. You are a self, a human being, a member of a species unparalleled on earth. And you are a soul, a spiritual being unlike any of the other seven billion or so alive today, or the countless billions more who have been or will one day be. Embrace both aspects of you, not merely one or the other, for only then can you begin to seek the truth of who you are.
When you do begin to see glimpses of that truth, know that you can---indeed should---share your revelations with others. Although they are not directly relatable for another, they serve as guides and lessons that may lead one to his own truth. And so it is for the material and the spiritual aspects of the world around us. Share your individual experiences, yet also your hard data. Let others judge it for themselves, to see how it fits within their view of the world.
Technetism aims to give everyone that same chance, that opportunity to find a personal truth and a place in the world. We all need both of those, and seeking them is a lifelong endeavor. It will never stop, because there is always something more to learn. In that sense, then, "technetic" is not a state of being so much as a direction in which to travel, a point of reference as we try to find our way, and that is no different from any religion or philosophy. No one knows all the answers, but we can work to find as many as possible.
